SPECIALTY CONTACT LENSES

VISION+EYES offers contact lens examinations for specialty contact lenses. Specialty contact lenses can offer improved vision for many patients that cannot see well with glasses or soft contact lenses by improving the optics of the eye.

What are specialty contact lenses?

Specialty contact lenses are customized lenses made from soft or rigid gas permeable materials. These lenses are made in a dedicated lab to address issues such as corneal surface diseases or irregular irides. The designs can include:

Hybrid Lenses

Hybrid lenses combine the sharp optics of rigid

gas permeable lenses with the comfort of a

soft contact lens. This gives the patient the

benefit of clearer vision without the discomfort

of rigid gas permeable lenses.

Scleral Lenses

Scleral lenses are the largest size of rigid gas permeable lenses designed to completely cover the cornea without touching it. The outer ring of this lens rests on the white sclera to not interfere with your cornea's sensitive condition. The saline fluid underneath the lens provides good hydration and focus to the eye.

Who are specialty contact lenses for?

Specialty contact lenses can be worn by anybody. They are more commonly used by patients with these conditions:

  • Keratoconus

  • Pellucid marginal degeneration

  • Corneal transplants

  • Severe dry eyes

  • Post-surgical patients

Specialty lenses help patients with these conditions by providing a smoother surface in front of the eye so that it can focus an image clearer.
